March 30, 2025 @ 2:00 pm
Opera West Society, in collaboration with UBC Opera, invites you to experience Jules Massenet’s Manon, a quintessential work of the French Romantic era. This five-act opera tells the compelling story of Manon Lescaut, a young woman torn between love and the allure of wealth, whose choices lead to a journey of passion, betrayal, and drama.
In this production, Emily Pogorelc takes on the role of Manon, bringing fresh nuance to this iconic character. She is joined by Frédéric Antoun as Chevalier des Grieux, creating a dynamic on-stage partnership that brings Massenet’s emotional score to life. With Jacques Lacombe conducting members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and direction by Nancy Hermiston, this performance promises to be a standout in the season’s opera offerings.
